On my trip to England last year… I decided to add in a day to go and explore outside of London. I’m so happy I did.
Just a few hours drive, I found myself in Stratford-upon-Avon… the famous poet and playwright, William Shakespeare’s birthplace. It is one of the cutest, most beautiful little towns I have ever seen.
Stratford-upon-Avon is located in the county of Warwickshire England… about a two hour drive from London.
The streets are filled with beautiful little cottages along the narrow roads that are now shops, restaurants and cafes. You can also buy a ticket to take a tour of the actual home that Shakespeare grew up in. Inside, it felt so surreal that I was actually walking around Shakespeare’s home. Everything is pretty much still in tact… you can hear the creaks in some of the floor boards as you walk. It’s a definite must, in my opinion, when you visit England.
(Shakespeare was born in 1564, so the fact the the home is still there is amazing! It’s been restored but for the most part, it is the same.)
I went in the winter… so the shops were filled with Christmas decoration and the smell of hot chocolate and teas filled the air. Christmas lights lit up the streets and windows. It was such an amazing experience. I loved every moment of my time in Stratford-upon-Avon.
